733 Lean Burn Gas Engine Control

Woodward's 733 Full Authority gas engine control system for lean-burn engines controls the air-fuel ratio by controlling the gas mass flow metering valve (TecJetTM). The Full Authority system enables faster load transients for the engine because it has a faster and more stable control over the air-fuel ratio. The E3 Full Authority system is designed for gas engines used in applications where the energy quality of the fuel supply is variable; such as engines used at landfills, wastewater treatment plants, or bio-gas recovery plants.

The 733 Full Authority system is a fully-integrated engine control solution with full authority over spark, fuel, and air. Additionally, diagnostics such as detonation and misfire, as well as other health monitoring, are integrated into the system. This fully integrated approach permits precise governing and air-fuel ratio control while remaining flexible enough for large variations in fuel quality.

The 733 is specially for the Caterpillar gas engines or Mitsubishi Heavy Industries gas engines.

The EGS-2 is a state-of-the-art control module for stationary gas engines. It can be used to control the gas flow in relation to the air flow of an engine, at any load and speed condition. The EGS-02 control is capable of keeping gas engine emissions constant over a longer period of time. And the EGS control is not sensitive to the quality of the gas or the gas pressure and temperature. This is accomplished by the patented gas quality closed loop (lean burn) algorithm or lambda sensor or NOx sensor.

The E3-FA control is capable of keeping gas engine emissions constant over a longer period of time. And the EGS control is not sensitive to the quality of the gas or the gas pressure and temperature. This is accomplished by the patented gas quality closed loop (lean burn) algorithm or lambda sensor

The E3-FA control can be applied on in-line and V-type engines of any power output, naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The control can be easily programmed with the windows based Toolkit, and it covers the wide range of gas qualities, from landfill gas to propane. Even a significant change in gas quality during normal operation of the engine will be compensated for by the control.

The EGS-01 is now obsolete and replaced by the E3, E6 or 733 Full Authority gas engine control. Turner can provide an onside upgrade. Also repair is available as long as parts are available. The engineers at Turner ECS are familiar with this system and can help you with field problems and commissioning.

As program "EGSMON" is running under DOS we have solutions available to help you communication also under newer versions of Windows till windows 10.

The Woodward Large Engine Control Module (LECM) manages and controls reciprocating engines (gas, diesel, or dual fuel).The LECM provides a single, engine-mounted module that can be used to control all aspects of the engine’s operation:

  • Speed and load control
  • Air/fuel ratio control
  • Ignition or injector control
  • Misfire and knock detection
  • Air/gas/exhaust flow control
  • Engine’s start and stop routines

Along with all the monitoring and engine-protection-related alarms associated with each function, as well as on-board data logging and communications.

The LECM’s software also allows control system designers to insert their own market-differentiating control algorithms. This single-module approach lowers hardware, wiring, and troubleshooting costs, as well as reducing development and installation time. Additional advantages come from having only one software service tool to learn and support.

This integrated approach permits precise steady-state speed governing for generator frequency control and air/fuel ratio control for low fuel consumption and emissions at best torque. Rich Burn integrates fuel control and catalyst control in a single system using StableSense™ Technology. Unlike first-generation A/F controls, E6 and E3 Rich Burn effectively analyzes, controls and optimizes engine and catalyst functions without continuous readjustment.

The system can be used as a stand-alone air-fuel ratio controller or as a complete gas engine emissions and engine control. It is designed for stoichiometric, spark-ignited natural-gas engines used in gas compression, power generation, pumping, and other stationary applications ranging from under 300 kW (400 hp) to over 2 MW (2700 hp). It has full authority over spark, fuel, and air. Additionally, diagnostics such as misfire detection and other health monitoring and engine protection functions are integrated into the system.

The Rich Burn system-based solution analyzes and controls all of the functions of your engine and catalyst to optimize the amount of time your engine is in compliance. The system controls the air-fuel ratio through a fuel metering trim valve. By means of the exclusive StableSense™ oxygen feedback sensor in the exhaust and the unique StableSense™ control algorithm the air-fuel ratio (lambda) is controlled slightly below 1 to optimize the three-way catalyst emission reduction.
